10 Personal Facts

  • I hate having to figure out how to describe who I am! I never know how to answer.
  • This year has been extremely busy for me in my personal life. I purchased and moved into my first home this year. I am SO tired of the moving and unpacking process. It feels like it never ends.
  • I am an animal lover. I hold two Bachelor's; one is in Animal Science. I always thought I would become a veterinarian.
  • Travelling and exploring new places is my favorite pastime. I am very lucky to have traveled to many different places but I am always looking for my next adventure.
  • I love to read and really enjoy being a teacher because it is a built in excuse for continuing to read YA books.
  • When reading, I tend to lack self control when it comes to finishing a book. I NEVER want to put a good book down. This has resulted in a few very late nights where I end up on having to catch up on all the things I should've been doing instead of reading.
  • I tend to be the same way with TV series and movies. It is way too easy to go down the rabbit hole. :)
  • I truly love to learn. It doesn't matter if it is hobby related, work related, or just fun facts, I always appreciate the opportunity to learn and grow.
  • I work a lot! I am currently debating if that is really a personal fact but I think the truth is that I enjoy what I do for work and it ends up being a large part of my personal life.
  • I am a teacher. This may seem like a "duh" fact but I have noticed that my teacher characteristics blend into how I act outside of work. It is a chicken/egg situation: do I act the way that I do because I am a teacher or does my natural personality fit the "teacher" profile?

10 Professional Facts

  • I am currently (November 2015) working at Bailey Charter Elementary. This is my 6th year.
  • I started at the school as the 21st Century Before and After School Program Coordinator and continued that for 5 years along with working for the school for the last three years.
  • With my background in the out of school time realm I feel that the before and after school programs at school are extremely important. Some of our students have longer days than our teachers arriving at 7:00 AM and not leaving until 5:30 PM and I always want to use those opportunities to enrich their learning whenever possible.
  • My job title is always evolving. I have not been in my own classroom for two years now because I am working in assessment and instructional support at my site. I work with all of the staff at our school on scheduling, incorporating new curriculum and resources, managing the instructional assistants, and facilitating assessments along the way.
  • I struggle. I loved being in a classroom with my own students every day doing real teaching but I also absolutely love working with all of the teachers and staff to improve our school.
  • If/when I head back into the classroom I am going to have a really tough time choosing what grade. I know a lot of people say they love all of the grades but don't really mean it but I really do! I student taught in kinder and taught in fifth and absolutely enjoyed them both. I think that each grade comes with their own challenges and benefits.
  • When it comes to scheduling, I love to nerd out. Excel and Word tables have become my best friend in the last couple of years.
  • Data is (ok, can be) seriously exciting! I have always been a numbers oriented person and using data to inform teaching has become a real passion.
  • I would like to begin working on my Master's in the near future but I am not sure what I want my focus to be.
  • I love where I work! I know that not everyone gets to say that but I really do enjoy the environment that I am in.
